Take Your Taste Buds to Brazil - Sweet treats
Demand for these South American offerings is on the rise: Newly opened Brigabon Candy Co. became KC’s second brigadeiro outlet, and a locally owned churrascaria is opening soon in Overland Park.
Brigadeiro—a traditional Brazilian dessert made with sweetened condensed milk and chocolate that can be rolled into balls or served as a spread—is catching on in KC. In the past year, two new brigadeiro bakeries have set up shop.
Marcella Ibarguren, a formally trained pastry chef and owner of Brigabon Candy Co., KC’s newest brigadeiro outlet, says the traditional treat is something she made growing up. Instead of waiting to roll and chill the candies, Ibarguren would eat the sweet with a spoon.
Ibarguren says her version of brigadeiro uses 60 percent cacao dark chocolate. Customers say her treats taste like brownie batter. For now, Brigabon offers a handful of flavors in rolled form.
Brigabon Candy Co. is available at The Sundry and Overland Park Farmer’s Markets.
